Pancreatic surgery is the operation done to either remove a portion or whole of the pancreas in conditions like cancer. Whipple’s surgery (pancreaticoduodenectomy)

This is the most common type of pancreatic surgery that is present on the head of the pancreas that is restricted to the pancreas only. In this surgery, the surgeon removes the head of the pancreas may be along with the small portion of the stomach, duodenum, gall bladder and the surrounding lymph nodes. In selected cases of periampullary tumors Laparoscopic whipple's is also offered to the patient with early recovery & back to home.

Distal pancreatectomy

Distal pancreatectomy refers to the removal of the tail and body of the pancreas and spleen is also removed. This puts you in a vulnerable state of catching infections, which is why vaccinations are given prior to this kind of surgery. It's mostly are of tumors in distal pancreas. Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy or spleno pancreatectomy are popular procedures.

Total pancreatectomy

Total pancreatectomy refers to the removal of the entire pancreas along with gallbladder, and part of the duodenum and sometimes a small portion of the stomach. Pancreatic surgery can look daunting but is a life saviour for people suffering from cancer that is progressively spreading along pancreas.
